Bel-Air Country Club

U.S. Route 66, the “Mother Road” of which John Steinbeck wrote and Nat King Cole sang, was completed between Chicago and Los Angeles in 1926. Near the place where Route 66 came to an end and not long after it was completed, Bel-Air golf course opened right nearby; it is among the oldest of the Los Angeles Golf Courses. Ranked as one of the best golf courses in the U.S., Bel-Air offers challenging greens, but at a price: green fees currently top out at $125 for peak tee times. Bel-Air is hilly and not for the faint-of-heart; unless you are in exceptionally good physical condition, you’ll either want to hire a caddy or a golf cart. However, as one of the most scenic among Los Angeles Golf Courses, it’s definitely worth it.

Calabasas Golf & Country Club

With its rolling hills, narrow fairways and water hazards aroung five of its holes, Calabasas Golf & Country Club is definitely for more experienced players.

Desert Aire Golf Course

Desert Aire is ideal for for novice and inexperienced golfers, with virtually flat ground and only a single water hazard. This municipal course’s nine holes are guarded by sand traps; those wishing to play a full eighteen holes can use extra tees.

Mission Hills Golf Course

Situated on the grounds of the local V.A. Hospital, this is primarily a putting green used for the rehabilitation of patients. However, as a public, tax-payer funded facility, it is also open to the public. The Mission Hills Golf Course offers a driving cage; seniors 60 and older receive a discount on Friday tee times.

Ocean Trails Gold Club

There are a few Los Angeles Golf Courses that feature specatular views of the seashore and the Channel Islands; Ocean Trails Gold Club is among the best. It is alos strictly for advanced players; undulating slopes, narrow fairways and ocean crosswinds are known to tax the skills of PGA golfers – not to mention the gorgeous and most distracting scenery!
