How To Become A Better Putter – Use This Simple Putting Drill To Master Your Putting
Practicing your putting can feel like a real chore sometimes. We’re told from all the magazines that we need to do different drills for every imaginable part of the putting stroke. I don’t know about you , but I don’t have time to do all of these drills and still have the time to squeeze in a round.
Here’s a putting drill that works on the majority of putting problems including your stroke, distance control, finding the correct line, and reading the green. And this putting drill won’t keep you out on the practice green until the sun sets. All you need is a half-dozen balls, your putter, and an area on the green without a cup. Yup, you read right, you don’t need a cup for this drill.
Drop the balls on the green and make sure there is enough space between them that you can putt them from where they landed. Don’t line them up, leave them scattered. This is part of the drill.
If you want to work on your six foot putts today, then you would take the ball closest to you, and give it your best effort at putting it six feet. Now address the next closest ball and putt it trying to hit ball #1. You would then address the next closest ball and putt trying to hit ball #2. Repeat this until you’ve putted all six balls.
That’s all there is to it. This drill is VERY powerful. Don’t be fooled by it’s simplicity. Because each putt will be slightly different from the next you have to factor in the conditions for each putt. You’re not standing there repeating the same movement over and over. Using this putting drill will get your putting on track extremely fast.
