Are titanium golf clubs good for a beginner?

I have been offered a cheap second hand set of titanium golf clubs from a friend.

Are titanium clubs okay for a beginner to use? The set is from the Dunlop Vista 2 range .

Thanks – from a new golfer!

In general there is nothing wrong with titanium, but I doubt the set you are referring to is even titanium to be honest. Dunlop clubs these days are a pale shadow of their former glory, and are aimed at the budget end of the market.

Cheap clubs are not going to be made with such a metal that is (relatively speaking) quite expensive and hard to work with. You may find the driver and maybe woods have a beta-titanium-matrix face, which is a low cost titanium alloy, other than that the clubheads on the irons and wedges will be steel, which is actually the best material for the job.

For a beginner there wont be anything “wrong” with these, but dont be mis-led into thinking they are better than they are.
