There have too many for me to choose one. Van de Velde comes to mind but that was just one hole and one VERY bad bounce. Roberto signing a wrong card at the Masters deserves a mention. Just last year, Kenny Perry was on cruise control until the final 2 holes and the playoff. Gil Morgan got it to 12 under at the 92 Us Open only to finish well over par. It all comes down to ones precise definition of meltdown.
Biggest US Open meltdown has to be Phil Mickelson in 2006. Winning with 2 holes left he put one of a tent, another in a garbage can. Just brutal!
Masters, has to be last year. Kenny Perry just blowing it down the stretch and then playing awful in the 3 way playoff (hats off to Cabrera for playing solid down the stretch).
British Open? Not sure if its the biggest, or if its a meltdown or one bad shot, but Tom Watson on 18 at Turnberry last year. That was sad!
i think it was the masters where greg norman let a 5 or 6 shot lead slip to nick faldo….. kenny perry comes to mind cos i had money on him to win
Greg Norman 1996 Masters. Had a 6 shot lead going into the final round and lost by 5. Had a string of 4 consecutive 5s on holes 9-12 with a ball in the water for double on the par 3 12th. Hit it way left in the water on the par 3 16th for good measure after his chances of winning were gone. Final round 78, while leading by 6, has to be the biggest collapse ever.
Jean Van de velde all the way
Jean Van De Velde. Wow that was brutal. As for last year it was Paddy at the pga. I was there to watch him destroy the 16 hole. I cant imagine watching Vande Velde,, SHeesh!
