Golf Putting Tips – Find Your Proper Putting Posture For Duffers

Golf is a game with a lot of individuality. That is while there is a full set of fundamentals that apply to every part of the game including putting; there are a multitude of golfers who get it done in very different ways.

But the one fundamental, undeniable truth is that at the moment the putter head strikes the back of the ball sending it forward toward the hole the putter face is aligned squarely to the intended line of the putt. In that aspect they are all alike.

There could be a lot of other things that are different from other golfers. They may have a different length putter, a mallet or a blade. They may have a different stroke, straight back and through or open to close. But in the end the putter is square at the moment of impact.

Putting posture is very much the same. There is a lot that can be different from one golfer to another but in the end the golfer needs to be in the proper posture for them.

Each of us has a different body with variations of all kinds. Some of us have long arms, legs or fingers. Others have shorter than normal body parts. Our torsos vary in length and circumference. Some are tall while others are short.

Injuries or disease can make permanent changes and birth defects can also create differences from one body to another.

Suffice it to say we’re all physically different, aren’t we? And we all still need to find the proper putting posture for us if we hope to become a good putter on a consistent basis.

With all of these differences it has been difficult for me to create a description of the correct putting posture that works for everyone. For example, you can’t describe how much to bend the knees in inches when everyone is so different.

That was true until now. This tip works for most everyone.

Here is a quick reliable way to find the proper putting posture for you.

Stand erect with your hands flat against the front of your thighs. While keeping your back straight, slide your hands down the front of your thighs until your finger tips reach the top of the knees. Don’t allow your knees to bend forward past your shoe strings. Now bring the palms of your hands together.

This is the proper putting position. You have squatted properly with your weight balanced over both feet. Your arms are relaxed with elbows bent and tucked close to your side.

Now make the putt.
